NPC Find Player

From The Elder Scrolls Construction Set Wiki

How do you get an npc to find a player like in the thieves guild quests. What are all the steps that are involved. I have tried looking at what was done for the thieves guild quests but I must be missing something.

Make a Find package with the target as the player. Nothing more complicated than that. --Kkuhlmann 08:38, 20 April 2006 (EDT)

The TG quests limit the find package to when the player is in a city. A find package with no conditions will cause the NPC to find the player ANYWHERE in the world, including in oblivion gates, in jail cells, in dungeons, etc. Make sure you apply the appropriate conditions to the package. I'm not sure about this : will cause the NPC to find the player ANYWHERE in the world:
  • If no location is selected then it defaults to the Near Current Location setting (read);
  • When the actor reaches the location within the specified radius, it searches the place for the specified Target. If found, it activates/converse/fight (...) the Target; else, it wanders around, periodically searching again (I've read that the periodicity was set around 10 min, but I've never tested this), until the Target is found;
  • If a Target is specified (which is what the Find Package is all about), the NPC travels toward the target until it gets within Target Radius, then activates the target.
However, the last point in regards to travelling toward a Target would be another assertion, as I was not able to verify it. What I've been able to observe though, is that the Target MUST be in the same cell as specified by the Location Tab in the Find Package, to make this package to work. In other words, if your target Actor is in another cell than the packaged NPC, it won't work, not until the Actor gets within the radius of the predefined location cell... Also meaning that one would need an Activator to EvaluatePackage over the NPC when arriving within Location radius, so as to force a package update (and make it work right away, instead of looking at the NPC who's supposed to be searching for you in some idle state mode, waiting for his package refresh)... Maybe I am missing something, but imho this question is not fully answered.

The previous comment needs testing. If the radius of the detection area (Location) is larger than the cell, and if doors nearby are leading to another interior cell or an adjacent exterior cell, then will the detection take place if the Target is within that radius even though it is in another cell? Max radius is 1500 for interior cells and 3000 for exterior cells.
